A cozy little game with no score and no clock. Wait at the buoy, watch the ferries cross far out in the river, and see if you can catch their wake when it finally rolls into the cove.
Each stroke pushes you forward and turns you a little away from that side. Alternate sides to hold a line.
When a wave is coming, point toward the beach and paddle, so it picks you up as it reaches you.
Steer along the wave with your strokes. Turn hard to peel off, then head back out to the buoy.
The real river is colder, faster and busier than this. Never ride, follow, chase or position yourself near a moving vessel or in the channel. The paddler here stays in the cove and wears a belt life jacket. Before paddling for real, read Ferry and boat waves and The river.
